HHS Secretary Sebelius Announces Senate Confirmation of Pamela Hyde as Administrator, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced today that the United States Senate unanimously confirmed Pamela Hyde as Administrator for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) within HHS. 

“Pamela Hyde has worked tirelessly on behalf of the people of New Mexico to expand access to health and human services programs and improve their quality,” said Secretary Sebelius. “With over 30 years of experience in both the private and public sectors, Pamela’s health policy expertise and management experience will be invaluable to our Department. She will be an outstanding leader at SAMHSA, and I look forward to working with her in this new role.” 

Pamela Hyde’s Bio:

Pamela S. Hyde -- Administrator, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, HHS.

Pamela Hyde has served as secretary of the New Mexico Human Services Department (HSD) since 2003.  Hyde has 30 years of experience in management and consulting for public sector systems of health care and human services.  She has held several key public sector management positions, including as director of the Ohio Department of Mental Health, the Ohio Department of Human Services, and the Seattle Department of Housing and Human Services. She also previously served as a CEO of a private non-profit behavioral health care organization.  Hyde is a member of or has served as a consultant to many national organizations, including the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the American College of Mental Health Administration, and the President’s New Freedom Commission on Mental Health.  She has received awards from the American Medical Association, the National Governors Association, the Seattle Management Association, and a number of consumer and provider organizations for her leadership and commitment to the well-being of those who rely on publicly funded health and human services.  She received a B.A. from Missouri State University and a J.D. from the University of Michigan.
